Based in Aberdare Retro is a Musical Theatre Company is for young people the aim of the company is to provide high quality Theatre training for young people in South Wales.

Retro was established as a starting point for young people wanting to learn more about the world of theatre. The ethos of Retro is to provide a quality musical theatre experience to its members, allowing them to learn and develop their skills in theatre, in a fun and creative environment.

It is no coincidence that Retro has been established in a socially and economically deprived area, where there are few opportunities for young people. Whilst offering its members the opportunity to learn and develop theatrical skills, Retro also offers young people a focus and a chance to develop their social skills and confidence, attributes they will be able to take forward into their future careers.

Retro also aims to work within the remit of Rhondda Cynon Taff’ County Borough Council’s ‘Community Plan,’ by using theatre as a tool to explore social issues such as:

•Safer Communities (policing, community safety initiatives)

•Our Living Space (environmental issues, recycling, etc)

•Our Health & Well Being

•Boosting our Local Economy (business support, employment)

•Learning for Growth (education, training, adult learning)
